Junior Suite Hans Axel, Count De Fersen (1755-1810), swedish Marshal

Axel de Fersen was presented at Louis XV's court at Versailles in September 1774. It was here that he met Marie-Antoinette and fell madly in love with her.In 1780, he became the Count de Rochambeau's aide-de-camp and left for America, then in the throes of the War of Independence.
From 1789 to 1793, Fersen did all he could to save the luckless queen of France. It was he who instigated the flight to Varennes, and he tried in vain to help Marie-Antoinette to escape from the Conciergerie prison where she was held before being executed.
After the queen's death, Axel de Fersen returned to Sweden. His demise was as tragic as Marie-Antoinette's: suspected of poisoning the Swedish crown prince, he was stoned to death by the rabble.

Junior Suite Louis Antoine De Bougainville (1729-1811), french navigator

At the age of 82, Monsieur de Bougainville could boast that he was, or had been, a lawyer, an embassy secretary, a member of the Royal Society in London, a knight of the Order of Saint Louis, a navigator on the high seas, squadron leader, field marshal, vice admiral, Member of the Institute, a count of the Empire, Chevalier of the Legion of Honour.
In 1766, Bougainville was given the command of the frigate La Boudeuse  and  crossed the Pacific Ocean, discovering islands in the New Hebrides and the Solomon Islands. In 1771, he published an account of his voyage which was hugely popular.
During the American War of Independence, he distinguished himself at the head of the French fleet against the English. After returning to France, he just escaped the massacres during the Terror and prudently withdrew from public life.

Tradition room Joseph  François, Marquis De Dupleix (1697-1763) Governor General of the Compagnie des Indes

Joseph Dupleix was the son of a shareholder in the Compagnie des Indes, and at a very young age was sent to India where he strove to develop trade for the company. As Governor of Pondicherry and Governor General of French possessions in India, he victoriously engaged with the English.  He was made marquis, and knight of the military Order of Saint Louis. He then sought to establish a protectorate system based on military authority, with the aim of ensuring that France maintained a trading monopoly and territorial sovereignty.
Louis XV's government underestimated the scope of Dupleix's policy. He   was finally relieved of his duties, and France, gaining nothing in exchange, handed over to England what was in the process of becoming an Empire.

Salon Aymard de Chouppes

This salon, dedicated to Aymard de Chouppes, Chevalier of the King's Order, King's Counsellor, Lieutenant General in his Armies, and childhood friend of Louis XIII., has kept its 18th century fireplace. The ceiling, in the 'French style', probably dates back to the Müller family, who used this room as a dining-room, as can be seen from the dish-warming system set into the radiators

Salons Louis de Barberin

The fireplace and the over-mantel are original, dating from the early 18th century. The fire back bears Louis de Barberin's coat of arms and his motto, Bellicae Virtutis Premium. The Barberin arms can also be seen above the château entrance and in the chapel.
The main staircase and the handrail date back to the period when Louis de Barbarin undertook the re-building of the château. He kept the west side of the old château, the stairway partly obscuring the pre-existing opening.
One of the portraits that decorate the walls is that of Armand de Saint Germain, a member of the Order of Saint Louis, in which Louis de Barbarin held the rank of

Chapel

The chapel was consecrated 27th June 1719 without Louis de Barberin being present, as he had died a few weeks previously. The tomb to his memory erected by his widow is the only known work by a sculptor from Dijon, Claude Dubois (1694-1769).
The chapel was refurbished by the Müller family who called in the master craftsman Pierre Lobin, for the stained glass windows.
